Cutting an onion asap

This is an onion. It has many parts to it. Many many parts that you will never think of or rather will never need to know but for the sake of this post we're going to talk about those parts. To be exact what we're going to talk about is the anatomy of the bulb. How many of you knew that the onion was really just the bulb of a flower? As all plants do onions have a growth pattern...roots, stem, bud. For a drawn out picture of the anatomy of an onion check out this site. Once you know the parts of the onion it will be easier to understand what I am talking about as I give you this step by step run down.
Let's start, Step One:

You're going to want two equal halves of the onion cut right down the middle of the stem.

once you've cut your onion you're going to lay it flat on your cutting board so that the flesh you just cut into in laying flat. This is going to help your onion from moving around.

For the record this onion is NOT cut that way. It should be cut that way and had I paid more attention to what I was doing instead of trying to solve a fight between Big Bird and Little Bird while trying to cut an onion for dinner it would have been cut that way but I'm going to have to ask that you believe me when I say, cut your onion right down the middle of the stem...
Step two:

Without cutting all the way though you want to cut each halve right down the middle. Leaving the stem in tack. This stem is going to hold on to all you pieces for you....it's like an awesome third hand.
Step Three:

Now that your onion is cut down the middle and your stem is still in tack you're going to cut length wise down the onion.....AGAIN leaving the stem in tack. Leaving the stem in tack is what makes this magic happen. Now you're pretty done.

It might not look like much at this point you have already chopped your onion up into little pieces.
Step Four:

simply slice though your onion at the thicknes that you want your onion peices to be and BINGO! Your onion is chopped up into equal little chunks.
Keep the stem in tack and chopping onions will go so fast that your eyes wont have to time to even think about watering.
